IAPT PWP Consultation Closing Soon

14 Jun 18

NHS England is keen to get feedback into the consultation outlined below, not only from service leads, so please share this in any PWPs forums.

The national team are looking to consult around the number of clinical contact hours for PWPs. There is guidance in the IAPT manual for HIs but not for PWPs. The national team have drafted the guidance below and would like to take this out to consultation. They are keen to find out:

  • What are services doing at the moment?
  • How are they calculating contact hours for PWPs?
  • Do the contact hours include admin, supervision, projects/lead areas?
  • Is it achievable?
  • Are PWPs able to sustain this without low morale or being off sick?
  • What is the impact on recovery rates?
  • Feedback on drafted guidance and any recommendations/changes

Please see drafted guidance below:
“It is suggested that PWPs work towards 18-20 attended clinical contact hours per week. This is guidance only and will vary depending on the service model and context. Good clinical leadership needs to take into account many factors such as modes of delivery (1:1, group work, cCBT); travel time; home visits; availability of fit-for-purpose technology (headphones, laptops, IT); supervision; meetings; liaison with other healthcare professionals (especially for IAPT-LTC) and other responsibilities of PWPs. PWP wellbeing and retention should be a key priority in decision-making around this.”

Please provide your responses and thoughts on the above and if you can send example job plans / timetables / formulas for how you calculate this then that would be really helpful.
