Calling for participants: UCL research study ‘Simulating dementia with a virtual reality app

This is an online study investigating people’s experience of a brief dementia simulation using a virtual reality app. CHAIN are interested in people’s attitudes towards dementia and towards providing support for people with dementia. You do not need to know anyone with dementia to take part.

Participants complete an online survey (20-25 minutes) and experience a brief virtual reality dementia simulation (5 minutes) via their smartphone or tablet.

This study has been approved by the UCL Clinical, Educational and Health Psychology Research Department’s Ethics Chair (CEHP_2015_529).

Requirements to take part:

  • Aged 18+ years
  • English speaking
  • Access to the internet preferably via a smartphone/tablet
  • Access to the free YouTube app on your smartphone/tablet (download instructions will be provided if you do not already have this installed)
  • No diagnosis of dementia, Alzheimer’s disease or Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI)
  • Never been referred to, or attended, a memory clinic for investigation of memory or thinking problems
  • No uncorrected visual or auditory impairments
