Bipolar Disorder in Adults: Implementing the New National NICE Guideline and Quality Standard

07 Jan 15

Monday 2nd March 2015
Hallam Conference Centre, London

"Bipolar is still a widely misunderstood illness that impacts more than a million people in the UK today. Compared to other health problems, treatment is still badly affected by misunderstanding and stigma. We welcome NICE's guidance as an important step to recognising the prevalence of bipolar and its impact, particularly on people concerned about the potential of bipolar, including young people and children, and their loved ones" - Suzanne Hudson, Chief Executive of Bipolar UK

The new NICE guideline for Bipolar Disorder was released by NICE in September 2014, the Quality Standard for Bipolar Disorder in Adults is currently in development, due out for consultation in January 2015 and for publication in July 2015. Both the NICE guideline and the quality standard identify important advances in knowledge and changes to treatment approaches for people with bipolar disorder. This conference will update delegates on the new guideline and essential steps in implementing the changes within their service. The conference will primarily focus on adult services but will look at the recognition and management, both pharmacological and psychological, in primary and secondary care. Person centred care will be a key theme of the conference and sessions will focus on the lived experience and the importance of supporting carers.
